Updating Plugins and Themes

Keeping WordPress, plugins, and themes updated helps maintain website security, compatibility, and performance. Updates can sometimes affect website functionality or styling, so always check the website after updating.

Checking for Updates #

  1. Go to Dashboard → Updates.
  2. Review the available WordPress, plugin, and theme updates.
  3. Check which components are currently being used by the website.
  4. Make sure a recent website backup is available before major updates.

Updating Plugins #

  1. Go to Plugins → Installed Plugins.
  2. Review the plugins with available updates.
  3. Click Update Now for the plugin you want to update.
  4. Wait for the update to finish before updating another plugin.
  5. Check the website after the update.

Tip: When troubleshooting or performing important updates, update plugins individually when possible. This makes it easier to identify the cause of an issue.

Updating Themes #

  1. Go to Appearance → Themes.
  2. Review the themes with available updates.
  3. Make sure a recent backup is available.
  4. Update the theme when appropriate.
  5. Check the website after the update.

Important: Do not update or change the active theme unless you are authorized to do so. Theme updates can affect the website’s layout, styling, templates, or custom functionality.

What to Check After an Update #

After updating, check the following:

  • Page layouts and styling
  • Fonts, colors, and spacing
  • Images and content
  • Buttons and links
  • Forms
  • Menus and navigation
  • Elementor editing
  • Interactive features
  • Unexpected errors or warnings

Important Notes #

  • Keep WordPress, plugins, and themes reasonably up to date.
  • Plugin and theme updates can affect website appearance and functionality.
  • Elementor updates may affect Elementor-built pages and templates.
  • Theme updates may affect custom styling or templates.
  • Custom CSS, JavaScript, and third-party integrations may also be affected.
  • A successful update message does not guarantee that every part of the website is working correctly.
  • Always perform a visual and functional check after important updates.
  • If you are unsure whether an update is safe, contact the website administrator or developer first.
